The slow-moving vehicle (SMV) emblem, a fluorescent orange triangle with "retroreflective" borders, does just that. It warns approaching motorists to slow down.
Slow moving vehicle sign is a warning sign. If a driver sees this sign displayed on the rear of a vehicle they are approaching, they should reduce their speed.
A slow-moving vehicle sign needs to be displayed if your vehicle is not capable of reaching and sustaining a speed greater than 40 km /hour. The distinctive sign layout of reflective orange triangle bordered with red, warns other road users that the vehicle displaying the sign is traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic.
The SMV emblem is required by the Ohio Revised Code when moving "implements of husbandry" and farm machinery on public roadways. Implements of husbandry are vehicles designed and adapted exclusively for agricultural, horticultural, or livestock-raising operations. Additionally, SMV emblems are required on other specific vehicles, including horse-drawn vehicles.
