DOT Reflective Tape Requirements for Trucks & Trailers
To ensure safety on the road, all trucks must comply with the DOT reflective tape requirements by using high-visibility red and white reflective tape.
Trucks weighing over 10,000 pounds and measuring above 80 inches wide are required to utilize DOT C2 reflective tape that is 2 inches wide, alternating between red and white. The white tape shines silver during daylight hours, ensuring increased visibility and safety on the road. The pattern of the tape can be either 6/6 (6 inches of red and 6 inches of white) or 7/11 (7 inches of white and 11 inches of red) with an even distribution of coverage on both sides, accounting for 50% each. These features not only ensure compliance with regulations but also increase safety for drivers on the road.
In the rear, two strips of reflective trailer tape must be used in the lower rear and an inverted L using solid white must mark the top corners of the trailer. These strict requirements help to make trucks more visible on the road, reducing the risk of accidents and increasing overall safety for all drivers.
