What is ECE104?
ECE104 Regulation establishes the use of retroreflective safety markings on vehicles, specifically Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs).
This regulation has been in place across Europe since 2011 and aims to improve the visibility of HGVs on the road, ultimately reducing the likelihood of accidents. The markings must be of specific dimensions and placed in a certain position on the vehicle, ensuring maximum visibility from all angles.
Compliance with this regulation is essential for all HGVs operating on European roads, as failure to adhere to the requirements can result in penalties and fines.
Truck rear markings for ECE104
According to the regulations set forth by ECE104 safety markings, vehicles must display markings that meet the specific requirements outlined in the regulation. To prove compliance, these markings must display the E-mark, which is only given to retroreflective materials that meet minimum reflectivity, color, and durability standards in all weather conditions.
The process for achieving this mark involves testing at certified institutes. To be considered an approved tape for ECE104, it must be certified to Class C of Regulation 104, which is the class designated for line and contour marking tapes.
In order to comply with safety regulations, markings on vehicles need to be between 50mm and 60mm wide. These markings must also adhere to specific colours and positions to ensure visibility for other drivers on the road.
Red tape is required for the rear of the vehicle, while yellow or white tape is needed for the sides. For the front lining, white tape is recommended. It is important to ensure that any contour or conspicuity tapes purchased meet standard requirements and carry the E-mark for compliance with UK Department for Transport standards.
